Dead men,
They celebrate
As the final chapter
Fades away
'Cause they can't hide
We can see their flesh is rotten!
The band plays a hopeful tune
The champagne is poured
As they socialise
The look in their eyes
Hide in the light!
Everything is paid for tonight
While at the party of the
Dead dancing in their graves
The drinks here are free
So relax
Enjoy the sight of all the
Dead dancing in their graves.
And while the world that they built
Told 'em to change
Told 'em to listen
They just kept it the same,
And now that midnight has come
I'm in a room watching the
Dead dancing in their graves.
Bones covered up by suits
As the visible scars,
They multiply
Kiss it good-bye
Too stubborn and I will destroy!
Tick, tock
The time bomb has been
Recognized been pressurized
Nowhere to hide
Swallowing light!
Everything is paid for tonight
While at the party of the
Dead dancing in their graves.
The drinks here are free
So relax
Enjoy the sight of all the
Dead dancing in their graves,
And while the world that they built
Told 'em to change
Told 'em to listen
They just kept it the same.
And now that midnight has come
I'm in a room watching the
Dead dancing in their graves
Feel a coming strength
And now it's too late
To change.
Everything is paid for tonight
While at the party of the
Dead dancing in their graves
The drinks here are free
So relax
Enjoy the sight of all the
Dead dancing in their graves
And while the world that they built
Told 'em to change
Told 'em to listen
They just kept it the same
And now that midnight has come
I'm in a room watching the
Dead dancing in their graves
oh one thing i just realized i forgot to mention in that is this. The ppl in the song who are so caught up in what they're doing don't realize what's happening as a consequence.
But everyone who knows them does see it. This also goes along the lines of the situation i mentioned about ppl who party everyday and do nothing else. Most of them don't realize how they're changing...but their friends and family do. And they may even warn them, but most ppl rarely listen...and yeah, once again ignorance comes to mind.
this song is pretty amazing.. Good point Brittany...it does kinda remind me of Phantom of the Opera too at the beginning. I never thought of that til I read your post.
anyways, I think this song relates to the Bible in a way...as it seems most great A7X songs do. The song is about the dead dancing and partying obviously, as if they don't even give a fuck that they're dead, or maybe just too stupid to realize it. But everyone else does, such as the narrator of the song who is watching them dance.
The lyrics, "told em to change, told em to listen, but they just kept it the same" are probably the most important lyrics to the meaning of the song. This is what it means basically...They were doing something wrong, and they should have changed their ways, but they never did. Now they've died as a result of their actions. It's a song about ignorance, and ppl who are completely oblivious to the mistakes they make on a daily basis. They are so blind to their actions, that they don't even realize the terrible results (such as them being dead), which is why they're dancing...they don't even realize the truth.
Now here's why I think it's gets Biblical...
The word "repent," or some form of it, is in the Bible too many times for any reasonable person to count. I think this song symbolizes countless times in the Bible where someone or some group of ppl were doing something God didn't like, and were told to repent or change their ways. Some did and some didn't. In this songs case, they didn't...and that decision is what led to their demise.
Fortunately for all you people who don't believe in God or the Bible or anything... the song can also be looked at in a many ways that involve modern day situations.
For instance, partying too much and constantly drinking or doing drugs or fucking random ppl can lead to many many many shitty consequences. Most ppl who do these things, are too busy doing them and having fun to realize the bad results that can accompany the fun times...but in the end they really are hurting themselves to some degree.
that's just one way of looking at it...but this song is mainly about anybody who is doing something that isn't good...and being to oblivious to reality to acknowledge how bad it really is, until it's too late and they suffer the consequences...such as death.
I'm sorry if this was too long...I probably could have shortened it, but I tend to get wordy when i'm explaining stuff.
anyways one last thing I'd like to point out is the happy upbeat tone of this song. I love it. It's ironic too, considering what the song is about, (at least what i think it's about) because it kinda goes along the lines of how the ppl are having so much fun to realize all the bad things that happen with their actions. It's almost like the tone of the song also symbolizes ignorance, just by being so upbeat. I love it.
well, i've fallen in love with this song
and it's pretty much about people who are stuck in a whole and don't want to admit it, hence the dead people trying to hide that they're dead.
it's really a great song, with a very full sound
