I've been traveling for so long
So lost till I stumbled upon
Two roads in front of me
I had to take my time
To the right I could see a church
I took a step in that direction first
But to the left there was a watering hole
Where they were whiskey drunk
And now that's where I wanna pray
The fun down here goes on and on
If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see
There's gotta be another way to go
A way that's much more feasible
A combination of all these lives
A central path without choosing a side
I make decisions one at a time
And no I never say I'm always right
I'm confident that when I stand on my own
You'll see the truest form of a man
When I'm shining through
So far down here, just holding on
If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see
Oh, I hear them now
All the religious right
(Anger I See)
(Anger I See)
(Anger I See, Now)
The left isn't better
It's just more of the same
Condemning all these people
For what they believe
I climb to the top of that mountain again
No one is going to save me this way
And the closer to the top I get
The more they can gain
But I'm not you
I may not be perfect
But I've always been true
I may not be worthy in your eyes
Climb up from the bottom
For the last time
The last one the last one
The last time
If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see, yeah.
yeah all you basically said the same exact thing. It's a very simple meaning...probably the simplest Avenged Sevenfold song i've ever heard. Life has choices...choices we make define who we are.
that's all this songs really about. Most ppl would be able to figure this out just by looking at the title.
Both paths suck because both will control you. Churches suck because they tell you what to believe and tell you how to live. Live in all lies and made up bull shit. The other way is partying, drugs alcohol, which can also control your life or the people who you do it with can control you by making all your decisions to do bad things. Either way you go you will drown. You will be controlled and might as well be dead, because your not living your life. So you have to not be scared to make your own path. On the road you will learn whats right and wrong. Be true to your self and you will find your way. If you go down a path already made then you are walking blind to the real world.
make your own damn religion that makes sense to you based off your experience not other people's. Don't just believe in one religion until you see Jesus him self turn water into wine. But also don't go to far in the other direction where you don't care, you will get lost that way too.
Regardless to what some of the listeners think, this song means a lot more then just right and wrong choices. The lyrics are much deeper then that. Some are missing a few key parts to the song. It’s talking about religion. How he (M. Shadows maybe?) had to choose between the ‘right’ path, the road leading to church, or the ‘wrong’ path, the road leading to a whiskey-filled watering hole. It was said that he started down the path to the church but saw that it wasn’t the right road to follow.
“There's gotta be another way to go
A way that's much more feasible
A combination of all these lives
A central path without choosing a side”
In this stanza, what he is looking for is someway to take both paths. He wants to prove that he can be a party animal but be religious at the same time. However, the religious people are saying that if he parties, then it is sinning
“If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see”
You see, if he was perfect, then he would know what path he would choose right off the back, but since he’s human, he knows that he can’t be perfect. He also knows that either path could lead him to destruction. Thus why he chooses the middle road. Even though there are no rules, he accepts that he is on his own, free to do what he wants to do without having anything come in his way.
“I may not be perfect
But I've always been true
I may not be worthy in your eyes”
He admits that he is not perfect, but he has been true to his beliefs and to himself. It doesn’t matter if he’s not worthy to you, because he knows that he has been true to himself. And that’s all that really matters to him,
