I've been traveling for so long
So lost till I stumbled upon
Two roads in front of me
I had to take my time
To the right I could see a church
I took a step in that direction first
But to the left there was a watering hole
Where they were whiskey drunk
And now that's where I wanna pray
The fun down here goes on and on
If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see
There's gotta be another way to go
A way that's much more feasible
A combination of all these lives
A central path without choosing a side
I make decisions one at a time
And no I never say I'm always right
I'm confident that when I stand on my own
You'll see the truest form of a man
When I'm shining through
So far down here, just holding on [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/avenged_sevenfold/crossroads.html ]
If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see
Oh, I hear them now
All the religious right
(Anger I See)
(Anger I See)
(Anger I See, Now)
The left isn't better
It's just more of the same
Condemning all these people
For what they believe
I climb to the top of that mountain again
No one is going to save me this way
And the closer to the top I get
The more they can gain
But I'm not you
I may not be perfect
But I've always been true
I may not be worthy in your eyes
Climb up from the bottom
For the last time
The last one the last one
The last time
If I was perfect
Then this would be easy
Either road's plausible
On both I could drown
I walk through the center
With no rules to guide me
I realize it's difficult
But now I can see, yeah.

What this song is getting at is you need to live your own life no one else's no one is pefect so live your own unperfect life and maybe youll become perfect to yourself and that is the only one who matters
The meaning of the song is a choice in religion and politics. At the beginning of the song the lyrics
"to the right i could see a church,
i took a step in that direction first
but to the right i saw a watering hole
where they were whiskey drunk
now thats where i want to pray"
In politics/religion the right is considered the religious conservative,
on the opposite end however is the left which is classified as the liberal atheist. Both sides are extremes and many people do classify themselves as these types of people.
Later the song states in one of its chorus's:
"if i was perfect, this would be easy,
either roads plausible, on both i could drown. I walk through the center, with no rules to guide me,
i realize it's difficult, but now i can see. "
This chorus goes into the fact that choosing a side can be quite difficult. Both sides have their strengths and weaknesses and, essentially, on both you can "drown". Then it states that he has chosen a path that is most probably the safest and best choice. He chooses to walk down the center in between the two paths. This is, of course, metaphorical for choosing to be an individual as opposed to classifying yourself based on which side you take. Then choosing to mix both sides of the spectrum and meet them both at a "crossroads" gives him a sense of enlightenment as he exclaims "now i can see" at the end of this passage.
The final passage i'll go over is this one.
"ill climb to the top of that mountain again,
no harm is done to see me this way,
and the closer to the top i get the more they take aim,
but i'm not you. "
This shows that choosing to be an individual is always an uphill battle. Standing at the crossroads of the two different extremities is a different experience for it will always meet resistance from both sides.
This song overall is much deeper than most people think. It uses some political slang which, while obvious to some, is not to others and acts as a very good moral story overall about what the best choice is when facing two very different paths in politics/religion. It is plausible to be atheist while supporting conservative beliefs and it is likewise ok to be religious while supporting liberalism. Overall the extremes of either side are nothing but a bad thing and the two have an ongoing hatred for each other. No one is perfect and the choice is always hard but this song is about overcoming the influence of both sides and choosing your own path.
Well those are my thoughts at least. Wow, i wrote way more than i had planned on. Oh well.
I think most people are right regardless, although in i wana say 75% of there songs the song has a much deepe meaning then most people can phathom ( a little piece of heaven is my favorite for that) yet is always so simple so it all depends on how the song relates to u and what you wana believe it is about. Cuz we where all perfect (which none is) then this would be a easy and either road is plausible :p
I really like this song and how it makes someone think; but how can someone say that a religion is the wrong path? A religion is supposed to be an experience beyond our minds; and thats why we believe. When someone believes, they don't give up on believing because they have no concrete evidence. As a catholic, i believe that believing in nothing will leave them in an empty void or a human, which is horrible. We are hopelessly hopeless without god and that is why we ask the holy spirit to fill us with the 7 gifts; and that's why there's prayer. When we show our faith, we get these gifts and we choose if we want to use them to act out our religion. Everyone is catholic like it or not and it doesn't mean you are going to hell for not being a practicing one. Love conquers all and showing our love to god is the ultimate test. I could go on and on, so i suggest investigating all religions before getting influenced by a song. Peace!
Yeah all you basically said the same exact thing. It's a very simple meaning... Probably the simplest avenged sevenfold song i've ever heard. Life has choices... Choices we make define who we are.
That's all this songs really about. Most ppl would be able to figure this out just by looking at the title.
