Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend, moon river, and me [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/andy_williams/moon_river.html ]
(moon river, wider than a mile)
(I'm crossin' you in style some day)
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after that same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend, moon river, and me

Two lovers or friends who have the same dreams and aspirations and connect in a way that they haven't with someone else, one day they will see the world and one day they will die and cross the "moon river" in style. Basically two connected people/soulmates going to their next stage.

It reminds me of better simpler times in the early 70"s, watching my parents slow dance to their albums & wishing that would be me and my family one day.

Written by johnny mercer and inspired by the actual "moon river" off burnside island (15 minutes from savannah, georgia). This was one of johnny mercer's boyhood haunts. If you have ever seen the moon river, you would know that it's beauty serves as a perfect inspiration to such an emotive song.

My sister you to sing this song to me to comfort me and lull me to sleep when we were in foster homes. She recently passed away and i will always cherish this song. Madame mouse

Mercer was a southern boy; holly golightly of manhattan originally was lula mae barnes of texas, i believe. "moon river" was her 'getaway' song about the mississippi, a la huckleberry finn. Thank you mr twain and mr capote (two more southern gents who drifted up to live permanently in connecticut and new york, respectively).
