Well, you're a long walk from my street
And I'm dying in this summer heat
I hope like hell you're waiting, waiting
Everybody's living like they're crazy in love
I'm a dizzy mess, and everything is so above me
From the floor of any life I lead today
Well, they can take, take, take the kids from the summer
But they'll never, never, never take the summer from me
It was the very first time that I lost my mind for a week
They can't make, make, make me forget the weather
If I never, never, never wash the sand from my feet
It was the very last, time then we said goodbye to the beach
(Showing off, showing off our teeth)
So make one last call back home
Cause tonight we go in alone
And I hope that you know I'm waiting, waiting...
(Summer do you feel me?)
Everybody's singing like we're crazy in love
We made a dizzy mess of everything but it was enough
So bring all the boys and all the girls together [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/all_time_low/the_beach.html ]
Well, they can take, take, take the kids from the summer
But they'll never, never, never take the summer from me
It was the very first time that I lost my mind for a week
They can't make, make, make me forget the weather
If I never, never, never wash the sand from my feet
It was the very last time then we said goodbye to the beach
(Showing off, showing off our teeth)
(Summer do you feel me
Listen can you hear it?
Cave in and believe me
Open up and scream it)
You're going out in style
And I'm getting tired of all your lying
Stop pretending
Stop, the answer's in the smile
And I'm coming clean
Just give me something
Stop pretending
Well, they can take, take, take the kids from the summer
But they'll never, never, never take the summer from me
It was the very first time that I lost my mind for a week
They can't make, make, make me forget the weather
If I never, never, never wash the sand from my feet
It was the very last time then we said goodbye to the beach
(Showing off, showing off our teeth)
All time low is from baltimore, maryland. In this song, they're talking about their vacation spot, ocean city, maryland. The week after graduation is considered your senior week. In ocean city, though, the whole month of june is dedicated to graduates because every high school graduates at different times. This song explains the fun they've had, their freedom, and all the things they're experiencing. I live in ocean city and have since i was born. I roam ocean city during the month of june and meet all the seniors who are having the time of their lives. It really is as fun as this song lets on.
I think that this song is about the tradition in maryland high schools, where the guys are from, to go on a trip to the beach with friends after graduation, fondly known as senior week. No parents, no rules, and never saying goodbye! Its awesome, def song worthy!
It sounds almost like he went on summer break, and had a great time, and then had to leave, and going back to the normal way things were made him forget how it was exactly, but they can't take that part away from him that was his memory.
I think that part of this song means that when they went back to school or home or whatever their normal life was that even though things got back to the way they used to be, with all of their teachers giving work & tests and the norm or when their parents bugged them to get a job (they can take, take, take, take the kids from the summer) they still remembered all of the memories and times from the summer.
And then he's asking summer for one of those memories. He's asking for summer to give him something to remember, so that when everything goes back to the way it was, he has something to think about.
