I believe my steps are growing wearier each day
Still I've got a journey on my mind
Lures of this old world have ceased to make me want to stay
And my one regret is leaving you behind.

If it proves to be his will that I am first to go
And somehow I've a feeling it will be
When it comes your time to travel likewise don't feel lost
For I will be the first one that you'll see.

And I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be waiting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming I will rise up with a shout
And come running through the shallow waters reaching for your hand.

--- Instrumental ---

Through this life we've labored hard to earn our meager fare
It's brought us trembling hands and failing eyes
I'll just rest here on this shore and turn my eyes away
And then you'll come then we'll see paradise.

And I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be waiting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming I will rise up with a shout
And come running through he shallow waters reaching for your hand.

And I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be waiting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming I will rise up with the shout
And come running through he shallow waters reaching for your hand...

My Mary Ann was the most wonderful person I ever had in my life. Within 15 minutes of our first meeting we both knew we were meant for each other. We never had a cross word. The only problems we ever had was when what wonderful she was trying to do for me ran into the gift of love that I was trying to give to her, or the other way around. But, she was an asthmatic, and she fought for each breath from the time she was born until the end of her days. She went into respiratory arrest twice in our 23 years, and with Grace and training in CPR I was able to bring her back both times. I did revive her on the third arrest, but she stopped breathing again while I was letting the paramedics into the house, and they could not revive her. That will soon be nine years ago. She is waiting for me now on the Far Side Bank of Jordan; she always loved that song. I hope she doesn't have to wait much longer for me. The love and care she gave me in our time together is still what keeps me going today. I'll see you soon little darling.

My husband passed away 2/2/12 and just a few weeks before we had heard this song on the bill gaither show with john and june carter and he told me that if he passed away before me this was one of the songs that he wanted played. We listen with my hand in his and i cryed the hold way through. Little did we know what god had planned. He had been sick for a long time and all he would say from time to time is, "i am tired, and i want to go home. I always told him he could not leave without me and he would smile. But i know just like this song says. He is waiting of the far side banks of jordan" and we will be together soon. It maybe a while for me, but it will be just like we got there together for him
