Awaken to the eyes of glazed humor
The haze in my somber eyes... It burns... So cold
The things you wish you could know

As he enters into the world as a ghost
The terror inflicted scrapes your bones
Let him hold you close

"Look" - Where? - "Over there" - Oh, I see what you mean...
Fear me, step too close to see what I see
Construct desire
The fine line between disease and what I need

As he enters into the world as a ghost
The terror inflicted scrapes your bones
Let him hold you close

It's exactly what it seems
The horror I live
The evil that beats inside me
It's called "my disease"

It's exactly what it seems
The horror I live
The evil that beats inside me
It's called "my disease"

It's exactly what it seems
The horror I live
The evil that beats inside me
It's called "my disease"

In the song “my disease” by a skylight drive talks of power and complication. The life behind a man who, if he lets people to close, he manages to harm them. The man tries to keep people at a distance, but the life he lives has always known the murderous acts. The life of what he has acknowledged he calls his ‘disease. ’ no one would strike him as a true killer, just a poser, but the assumptions people make about him are all true. People believe him as a demon, a bad soul, but those words are just a few of how you would describe the brutal man who has a good heart underneath.
He manages to keep himself unknown among the world afraid of harming someone. “as he enters into the world, as a ghost. / […] let him hold you close. ” (4 and 6) this basically says that while he remains silent among the people around him, if you let him close then you’re bound to be hurt, only if you hurt him first. “the terror inflicted scrapes your bones. ”(5) once so far away, he comes after you no matter what. He is a chaser, finding the people he wishes to get rid of. He regrets what he has done, but it’s all he has to know and finds it almost unable to stop his devious acts after they started. “the fine line between disease and what i need. ” (10) the ‘disease’ he has is like a drug to him, an illness he can’t get rid of.
It’s ‘the evil inside of him’ that causes him to do it. Almost as if someone is telling him what to do it, but because of the people he has encountered his life has been a tale of being bullied. “the horror i love, the evil that beats inside me, it’s call ‘my disease’” (15-17) while he enjoys what he does, in a way of so many words he regrets his decisions for hurting individuals as he does, but they have hurt him first. His evil is his ‘disease’ and causes him to hate what he does, but love it at the same time. He enjoys seeing the pain of others, just as he had been unhappy. “”the haze in my somber eyes…it burns…so cold. ” (2) while he attempts to keep people at a distance, and he still manages to harm them, his past is what has caused this cruel life he lives. “fear me, step to close and see what i see. ” (8) being in his life is dangerous for anyone.
“awaken to the eyes of glazed humor. ” (1) the man knows he is a murderer and that what he does is wrong. For him, he feels his job is something he has to do. While it burns inside of him, what he does, it feels so good at the same time. He wants people to feel what he has felt for his whole life. “it’s exactly what it seems. ” (14) everyone knows about him, everyone realizes what he has done, shunning him and not understanding what he goes through. Going back to his past, “the things you wished you could know. ” (3) is him telling people that they will never understand, but underneath he has a soul, this thing that has taken control of him is just a desire for the blood of the people that have hurt him. His ‘disease’ is just to make up a name for what he has become.
While “my disease” by a skylit drive is a powerful and meaningful song, the significance behind his words is more then you could imagine. A man struggling with his life and taking it out on the people around him. Every killer has a purpose for why they do what they do but with all the pain he has had in his life, he feels everyone else needs to feel his agony to. It’s not that he is corrupt; he is just out for his revenge for what everyone else has caused him. His life, based on hurt, has finally got the best of him.
