Great song this.

I think the overall theme is about breaking up with a girl you no longer care about. Shes become an annoyance, an unwanted presence (a 'thorn in your side').

Its time to break-up ('I know you know whats going on', 'this is me without you') and get back out there in the big, bad world and meet new people ('what's it like in the greater sky').

As for the doctor references, all a bit ambiguous but I guess it could be that the girl is so shocked and heartbroken shes taken it really badly and he's comparing the support she'll get from friends et al to 'the doctors' arriving to 'heal' her.

Finally, I reckon the title refers to love. He hasn't stolen her heart ('I'm not a thief') he just knows shes not the 'treasure' he's looking for.
