Having been a heroin addict that first stanza screams heroin use to me. "Chasing ghosts" = searching for lost/collapsed veins. ," I wish someone would show me where to draw the line" = help me get a vein," I'd lay down my sword if you would take it" = A cry for help to get off the needle. Then there is the William Burroughs reference. HE was a know heroin user. I even wonder if adobe woman is a "Mexican mud (heroin)" reference
