The author this piece is saying she wont be one of the 'normal' girls and she doesn't care. She is going to be herself and will not let any of the other girls who look like barbie dolls make her change her mind. This is setting a good example to all the women out who are putting themselves through pain just to me 'skinner' or more 'pretty' then they think they are.
