I am very surprised that there is any question about the meanings that engendered this music. Actually "Gender" is a large part of what inspired this gutsy song. You don't have to be a Transgendered person to see the importance of being "IN LOVE WITH YOURSELF" and accepting all that you are, if you hope to meet others who will accept your true psychological and sexual nature. At the time he first wrote and performed this TS/TG song people in general were not as accepting of divergent gender role s as they are now. Maybe that in why David did not come out as forward about his own gender divergent role. But then many of us are in love with both sides of our gender identity. I, for one, loved acting as both sides of my dual nature. Back in the day, I spent most of my life as a full time bisexual Transsexual Woman.
