This is a sad part for me as I was in love but when you are first together with someone there are no pressures like bills, career, are we going have kids etc I wasn't ready for the commitment but I wanted to keep that feeling of how it was in the beginning.

I wanted to look into those eyes and know I was doing the right thing but I wasn't ready. I did have lots of faults back then and still do but sometimes a fault is a personality trait which can't be changed. It wasn't right but there was still a chance everything would work out.

I wrote this song around 1999 and worked on a few different versions of it until my most recent release in 2013. It is a song about my first serious relationship. It all started off so well but I was young and wasn't ready for the commitment and I eventually made the relationship impossible. The song expalians how everything was generally good but my love life wasn't great. I was with someone although I loved them it wasn't right. The middle eight part (I wish that you could look at me..) was added to the later versions after we got married and divorced. The version on my solo albums 'Moving on' 2005 and '21 years to become an overnight success' 2013 included another verse but was edited out for Declans version. I was honored that Declan sang my song as it meant alot to me and was delighted when his performance of it on You Tube reached over 1 million views! Jamie Goddard.

This is how I felt at the time, when I first met my partner it was amazing but gradually I ground the relationship down and made it impossible. I know I wasn't the only one to be her boyfriend but the happiness I felt nearer that time was what I wanted. When it was fresh and when we first got to know each-other.

When I wrote these lyrics it was in a good place, I was having fun and working. I had doubts about my relationship with my partner at the time, I just wasn't sure about it all. It was 'so far from right'. Everything else was fine.
