2 Samuel 11 opens by setting the stage for David's adulterous relationship with Bathsheba. David, instead of leading his troops, stayed back:

I can't believe that I was watching
King David first spotted Bathsheba when she was bathing on her rooftop.
"Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold." (2 Samuel 11:2)
