Neilzo here A very sad song.
The lyrics are correct, there are just some double or hidden meanings, here. I hear this being about a man who choose "things" like wealth, over family. He says "It's the evening of the day", I hear, "It's the evening of my life."
"I want to hear the children sing.." I hear, "I want to hear MY children sing." but he either never had any children or he's left his family.
All I hear is the sound of rain (my tears) falling on the ground, I sit and watch as tears (years) go by. My riches can buy everything. Can't buy what I know I've missed.
