She'd trade Colorado if he'd take her with him
Closes the door before the winter lets the cold in
Wonders if her love is strong enough to make him stay
She's answered by the tail lights shining through the window pane

He said I wanna see you again but I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better, can I call you then?
She said you're a ramblin man,
You ain't ever gonna change
You've got a gypsy soul to blame,
And you were born for leavin'

At a truck stop diner just outside of Lincoln,
The night as black as the coffee he was drinkin'
And in the waitress eyes he sees that same old light is shinin'
And he thinks of Colorado and the girl he left behind him

He said I wanna see you again but I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better, can I call you then?
She said you're a ramblin man,
You ain't ever gonna change
You've got a gypsy soul to blame,
And you were born for leavin'
Born for leavin'

Well it's a windin' road,
When you're in the lost and found
Your a lover, I'm a runner
And we go round and round
And I love you but I leave you,
I don't want you but I need you
You know it's you that calls me back here babyyy

Ohhh, I wanna see you again but I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better, can I call you then?
Cause I'm a ramblin man,
(I ain't ever gonna change)
I ain't ever gonna change
Got a gypsy soul to blame,
And I was born for leavin'
Born for leavin'

When I close my eyes I see you,
No matter where I am
I can smell your perfume through these whisperin' pines

I'm with your ghost again,
It's a shame about the weather,
I know soon we'll be together
And I can't wait till then
(I can't wait till then)

I think it means that a traveling guy falls in love with a girl that challenges his love for his dreams and when it comes right down to it, he chooses the dreams. However, he can't let her go and he sees her in every other woman, smells her familiar perfume everywhere, and then every girl he's with is her in his mind, hence, her ghost. He just can't get past his true love for her.

Colder weather is, well a love song without directly showing its self as one but its really talking about two people who love eachother but the guy in the relationship can't quite seem to make up his mind and keeps leaving and tries to come back but knows that he cannot and the whole time she's hoping that the strength of her love for him can make him come back.

Actually, it sounds as if my grandma (amy) could of wrote this about her husband clarence. During the depression he looked for work and traveled a great deal to find labor jobs. He brought the family out to colorado after ww 2. She lived there when he was killed in auto accident in idaho. The lyrics "ramblin man, aint ever gonna change, got a gypsy soul to blame, born for leavin they are her words I had heard allot. A I said he died and she was devastated, I am with your ghost again I know we'll be together. You should read the other poems she wrote. Very moving.

This song is about a man who cannot commit to staying to one woman. He moves from town to town, moving from woman to woman. That is, until he meets Colorado. He really does love her, but the gypsy soul in him tells him to leave. She wants him to stay with all her heart, but nothing can keep him grounded. He sees the woman he leaves in the waitress's eyes in the diner, and that only brings back memories for him.
