Yano – Esem lyrics
Patingin-tingin, di naman makabili
Patingin-tingin, di makapanood ng sine
Walang ibang pera, kundi pamasahe
Nakayanan ko lang, pambili ng dalawang yosi

Paamoy-amoy, di naman makakain
Busog na sa tubig
Gutom ay lilipas din
Patuloy ang laboy
Walang iisipin
Kailangang magsaya, kailangang magpahangin

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
(Repeat)

Gumagabi na
Ako'y uuwi na
Tapos na ang saya
Balik sa problema
At bukas ng umaga
Uulitin ko pa ba ang kahibangang ito
Sa tingin ko hindi na

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay

Nakakabaliw ang ganitong buhay
Di nakakaaliw ang ganitong buhay
Nakakabaliw ang ganitong buhay
Di nakakaaliw ang ganitong buhay

No... no no no

Esem is a song about a guy who finds rest in the mall. Though, he does find rest, he can not buy anything because he is poor stating that he can only by cigarettes and he would only drink water though he is hungry. This said, he ends up wandering about looking at stalls, the cinema and many other. In the end of the day, the mall will close and he is back to reality, the outside world where he faces, yet again, his real problems. In the last line of the second stanza, he asks himself if he would repeat his temporary vacation which he then answer no.

This song reflects the Philippine society as it struggles to cope up with modernization in the 1990s where many people remain poor. Esem is actually a Filipinized spelling of a popular Philippine mall. In the song, the character is telling us how fed up he is, how irritated he is with life in an ironically inspiring way. Up to now, many Filipinos especially the youth treasure this song as one of Philippines' greatest rock song.
