The light still in our eyes
We're leaving this old fairground behind
It's a dream that's growing cold
The circus never dies
The act forever haunts these skies
I know we cannot stay
Farewell to the fairground
These rides aren't working anymore
Goodbye to this dead town
Until the ice begins to thaw [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/w/white_lies/farewell_to_the_fairground.html ]
This place used to gleam
I'd see it in my hopeful dreams
Now I have to get away
We move towards the stars
And all that we touch becomes ours
Let's keep warm 'til it's day
Farewell to the fairground
These rides aren't working anymore
Goodbye to this dead town
Until the ice begins to thaw
We'll head south just hold my hand now
I feel like I'm casting off my clothes
And I'm running through the snow towards the sunset
And I'm always with you
Keep on running
Keep keep on running
There's no place like home
There's no place like home

When you mess up your life in this big place you've moved to, you obviously blame it on the diabolic metropolis... Suddenly, this fairground looks like a gutter, it's gleaming spires look like icebergs, the cold is unbearable, and you need to run back home, which for some reason is always south, so that you can undress layer after layer of the big city filth on the way. There were good things about your long stay there, though... Perhaps this nice girl/boy you'd like to bring along, promising a lot of sunshine and all. Or maybe you'll just sleep over it and come back once you realize that the ice that refuses to thaw is nothing compared to a week with your parents.
