(Don Schlitz/Beth Nielson Chapman)

There's a tree out in the backyard
That never has been broken by the wind
And the reason it's still standing
It was strong enough to bend

For years, we have stayed together
As lovers and as friends
What we have will last forever
If we're strong enough to bend

When you say something that you can't take back
Big wind blows and you hear a little crack
When you say "Hey well I might be wrong"
You can sway with the wind till the storm is gone
Sway with the wind till the storm is gone

Like a tree out in the backyard
That never has been broken by the wind
Our love will last forever
If we're strong enough to bend

When you start thinkin' that you know it all
Big wind blows and a branch will fall
When you say "Hey this job takes two"
We can sway with the wind till the skies turn blue
Sway with the wind till the skies turn blue

Like a tree out in the backyard
That never has been broken by the wind
Our love will last forever if we're strong enough to bend
Our love will last forever if we're strong enough to bend.

When two people that have come together as "one", and they run into bumpy roads along the way, and no matter how hard it is, or how tough it gets, no matter what, and unconditiontionally there for each other, that the "love" between them is so strong, no matter what, no matter how bent things get, their l"love" is strong enough to bend and not break.
Meaning, that "strong enough to bend" mens to me, that my significant other, my life, my world, my girl. Whom has joined with me as "one", her and I can get through anything "together" and make it though "together" because we are both willing to give, put in too, and do what "we" must do. To make it, survive and keep going forward, "together". We both are willing to bend a little so that nether one of us will break. Unconditionally - as "one" we are.
