This is a song about a card game
Black queen, holding hearts
Black queen, tear the game apart
Black queen, don't you know?
Can't beat aces all in a row, black queen, no you can't
Have mercy black queen
Don't you go mess with the black queen, no
Black queen, see the whole hand
Black queen, where's your black man?
Black queen, if he ain't in the hole
Black queen, you got some more to show me, black queen
Oh, get on me black queen
Oh, Lord, have mercy, black queen
She's called to beat me clean
Black queen, where's your bank roll?
Black queen, where did it go?
Black queen, the truth is hard
Black queen, you're playin' foolish cards, black queen

The "Black Queen" is about a woman who is a prostitute, and she has a pimp who is in a relationship with her, but it is not necessarily the best of times for either one, as they are only trying to survive. She sees her black men, some of whom "can't be all aces" as Stills says. She can be mean when she needs to, and doesn't want to show you everything she has, unless you pay her more. But, if the pimp is not around, perhaps she will give you a discount. All this claptrap about the previous missive is nonesense. Stills is telling us about the blues, and the blues isn't happy, most of the time. A great song, and one he no longer plays because he cannot sing the upper registers after being on the road over 40 years. But: you're either with him or not. For me, Stills has taught me a lot over the years. I am with him, always. SpfldBuffalo

hes talking to the "black queen"
(if you know what i mean)
in a card game, about the best stategies for winning the game,
he then goes off on a tangent asking the "queen" about aspects of her social life.
he then gets back on track, and somewhat dismissively, critisises her card-playing choices, although he never explains what makes him qualified to make such comments,
the listeneer is left to infer that he might be a professional gambler, or perhaps he is trying to shake her confidence in a card game between the two of them, as a way of bluffing, or as a card playing technique, the last part is not so clear.
why he asks her about where is her "black man" is not clear either, is he refering to the "black king" something needed in card to have a straight... or even to the "black jack".. this last possibility is doubtful as the "jack" is usually considered the "son" of the "queen" so he wouldnt refer to the black queen's son, as her "man" most likely. the other option is it is a question about the person (not the cards) that he is talking to, and the question of where is her man is a personal one. why he wants to know is not clear, is he implying that she is single due to a person defect, or does he want to know where her "man" is so he can make a move on her romantically. of course the last possibility for the song is tha he is somewhat delusional, and is having a psychotic episode, and as such is anthopomophisizing a deck of cards, talking to them, and trying to reason with them as if they were humans, which would explain why he said they were behaving foolishly, as cards would not be expected (as they are inanamate objects) of behaving in an indepenently intelligent way. if this is the case, it exploains the reference to being in the "hole" which would be Insane Asylym language for being in solitary confinement, or it could be a sexual reference. All in all the song is very confusing, and is meant to work on several levels.
