Soundgarden – Spoonman lyrics
Feel the rhythm with your hands
(Steal the rhythm while you can)
Spoonman
Speak the rhythm on your own
(Speak the rhythm all alone)
Spoonman

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, on together with your plans
Save me, yeah
Save
Oh

All my friends are Indians
(All my friends are brown and red)
Spoonman
And all my friends are skeletons
(They beat the rhythm with their bones)
Spoonman

Oh
Mm

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, on together with your plans
Save me
Save
Save me
Save me, yeah
Save
With your

Come on, come on, (come on)
Come on, come on, (come on)
Come on, come on, (come on)
Come on, come on, (come on)

With your
With your hands
Come on
Come on
Come on
Come on
Yeah

Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off
(Spoonman)
Come on while I get off

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, on together with your plan
Save me
Save, yeah
Save me, yeah
With your
With your
Hands

Feel the rhythm with your hands

I believe the origin of this song came from the making of the movie Singles. Interesting story, in the movie the band had a cassette tape they were promoting. As a movie prop there were names of songs written on the cassette tape. They weren't actual songs. Chris Cornell took this cassette tape home and within a couple hours recorded songs for each of the names written on the cassette tape. He brought the tape back to the movie set and waited for someone to discover the music. A couple of the songs (including Spoonman) were placed on future albums. They later came across a man who played spoons as an instrument and included him into the song.

It's about loving yourself with your hands and drug use and yes the spoon man who is alive and use to perform with the band live. He was a heroin user so the band is just trying to keep it clean for radio.

It worked as many think it's just about one thing.

These interpretations are way too complicated. The song is simply about their spoon player. If you look up actually references of the song, you will find that the guy who played spoons for a couple of their recordings and went on tour with them up and disappeared in the middle of one of their tours, and was never heard again. There might be slight drug references in the song; however, that is not what the song is about.

This is about heroin. At the time he was pretty much into this drug. "all my friends are brown and red", heroin is rarely white but most often a chalky brown and red is the act of drawing blood into the syringe to mix with the H, "and all my friends are skeletons", this line is self-explanatory, "come on while I get off", self explanatory again and the reference to "all my friends are indians" is an allusion to the destruction of the native americans with 'firewater' that would make them feel good for a while but ultimately killed them. I hope this clears the confusion up.

I'm not really sure what this song means but it makes me think of the times in highschool when I use to sing it and beat on the lockers with my pudding snack spoon. Either way I've been trying to figure it out and have failed at finding the true meaning online. Since this damn thing told me to write at least 50 words so Hopefully I'm at 50 now but maybe not. Another possible meaning could be cooking. Crack anyone?
