It all seemed to happen so fast
Will you ever believe the way he passed away
I saw his widow speak on her fortune
She was feelin' pretty apathetic
Coax me, cajole me
Coax me, cajole me [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/s/sloan/coax_me.html ]
If I drink concentrated OJ
Can I think Consolidated's okay?
It's not the band I hate, it's their fans
Three cans of water perverts me
Coax me, cajole me
Coax me, cajole me
Coax me, cajole me
And after he died
By rights she'd have cried
I gave mine away
I gave mine away
I saw a widow's peak on her forehead
It was full of lines and sinkers
Coax me, cajole me
Coax me, cajole me
Coax me, cajole me
I always wondered, and today i saw that the song penpals, which is on the same album, was inspired by nirvana fanmail. Could coax me be about the death of kurt cobain, with the references to the widow being about courtney love?
If anyone can interpret the real meaning of this song, i'll be quite impressed. No idea what he means, but clever wordplay and all-around a great song. One of my favorites for about 15 years running. The video that accompanies is about the worst performance i've ever seen of this classic song. Pity. If you don't know sloan, check them out, you will not regret it.
