To me, this is bashing religion and trying to convince the listener to realize that religion is just abstract. In reality, they are "blindly following" God even though nothing good has come out of religion, just war. This relates to the song Behind the Crooked Cross from South of Heaven with lines such as "Blind obidience carries me through it all", and "forced to fight behind the crooked cross.
