When I come to the river at ending of day
When the last winds of sorrow have blown
There'll be somebody waiting to show me the way
I won't have to cross Jordan alone.

I won't have to cross Jordan alone
Jesus died all my sins to atone
In the darkness I see he'll be waiting for me
I won't have to cross Jordan alone.

--- Instrumental ---

Often times I'm forsaken and weary and sad
When it seems that my friends have all gone
There is one thought that cheers me and makes my heart glad
I won't have to cross Jordan alone.

I won't have to cross Jordan alone
Jesus died all my sins to atone
In the darkness I see he'll be waiting for me
I won't have to cross Jordan alone...

Means you have died "in christ" as a true christian so christ will be with you when you pass away to receive you on the other side to be with him forever. Free from all pain and sorrow - at last! In a nutshell if you die a true christian you won't be alone in death god will be right there with you and will receive you on the other side. Sorry if i have repeated myself. Hope this helps someone. God bless.
