I've been long, a long way from here
Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos,
And drank til I was thirsty again
We went searching through thrift store jungles
Found Geronimo's rifle, Marilyn's shampoo
And Benny Goodman's corset and pen
Well, o.k. I made this up
I promised you I'd never give up
[Chorus]
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/s/sheryl_crow/if_it_makes_you_happy.html ]
You get down, real low down
You listen to Coltrane, derail your own train
Well who hasn't been there before?
I come round, around the hard way
Bring you comics in bed, scrape the mold off the bread
And serve you french toast again
Well, o.k. I still get stoned
I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home
Chorus
We've been far, far away from here
Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos
And everywhere in between
Well, o.k. we get along
So what if right now everything's wrong?
It's not easy to find someone who has the same passions as you. If you share one or two, you're lucky! You love her, you can't be really happy if what makes you enjoy represents an effort to her. Beautiful song!
I'm not quite sure what she's talking about.. I think she might just be talking about pleasing someone else. Possibly their guilt gets to them.. But it's what they want so why the hell are they so sad? But none of the rest of the song relates to that subject. So who really knows? But i love this song! Sheryl crow is awesome!
What i gather from this song is that she's saying, do you and be you. Be and do whatever makes you feel happy. It might not be for everyone-you might not be for everyone- but hey, you're happy with yourself and whatever.
