Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord

And were you there when they laid Him in the tomb
Were you there when they laid His precious body in the tomb
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, I cry and I tremble
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb

Were you there when He rose from the grave
Were you there when my Jesus rose from the grave
Sometimes it makes me want to shout
And I cry and I begin to tremble, I tremble
Were you there when He rose from the grave

Personally, i have always loved this song, ever since i was a small boy; but there was always something in it that bothered me. Then one day, the holy spirit revealed it to me. It was the word, "they. " when it should be "we" or "i" -- when sung without the self-righteous pronoun and replaced with a personal pronoun the music hits with so much emotion and conviction.

I was there because through every step and stripes and sheding of blood he was thinking of you and me and saying to the father i will pay the price for them. Every sins i ever commited he bore on his body. So today i can have access to the throne when i pray. The father hears me when he sees he blood of jesus over me.
