Rocky Horror Picture Show – Time Warp lyrics

[Intro]
(Riff Raff) It's astounding
Time is fleeting
Madness takes it's toll...

(Magenta) Ahh...

(Riff Raff) But listen closely...

(Magenta) Not for very much longer...

(Riff Raff) I've got to keep control.
I remember doing the Time Warp.
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me.

(Riff Raff & Magenta) And the void would be calling.

[Pre-Chorus]
(Guests) Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

[Chorus]
(Narrator) It's just a jump to the left.

(Guests) And then a step to the right.

(Narrator) Put your hand on your hips.

(Guests) You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust.
That really drives you insane.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

[Verse 1]
(Magenta) It's so dreamy
Oh, fantasy free me
So you can't see me
No not at all.

In another dimension
With voyeuristic intention.
Well secluded I see all...

(Riff Raff) With a bit of a mind flip...

(Magenta) You're into a time slip...

(Riff Raff) And nothing can ever be the same.

(Magenta) You're spaced out on sensation.

(Riff Raff) Like you're under sedation.

[Pre-Chorus]
(Guests) Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

[Verse 2]
(Columbia) Well, I was walking down the street
Just having a think
When a snake of a guy
Gave me an evil wink.
Well he shook me up
he took me by surprise
He had a pick-up truck
And the devil's eyes
He stared at me
And I felt a change
Time meant nothing
Never would again.

[Pre-Chorus]
(Guests) Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

[Chorus](Narrator) It's just a jump to the left.

(Guests) And then a step to the right.

(Narrator) Put your hands on your hips.

(Guests) You bring you knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust...
That really drives you insane
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again

(Columbia) Ah! Oh! Oh! Yeoooww...
Ahhhh.

[Pre-Chorus]
(Guests) Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

[Chorus]
(Narrator) It's just a jump to the left.

(Guests) And then a step to the right.

(Narrator) Put your hands on your hips.

(Guests) You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

Both a parody and example of the dance genre in which the primary chorus constitutes of simple dance instructions. In the song, the three soloists (Riff Raff, Magenta, and Columbia) sing about their past and/or desires. Columbia's solo is most plain in meaning. She sings of her first meeting with someone, generally presumed to be Dr. Frank N. Furter himself, but occasionally argued as Eddie. While Frank would be the more obvious solution, Eddie is equally likely to be the subject of her solo, as while Frank is "a snake of a guy" and could very well have "the devil's eyes," many think he would never be caught dead, a, outside the castle, and b, in a pickup truck. Eddie, being an earthling and having a rather rockabilly sense of style, suits the setting a bit more (however, I personally enjoy the idea of it being Frank when they first arrive on earth). Magenta's is a bit less clear, though still easy to decipher. She wants to be invisible to live out her fantasies of, for lack of a better term, watching people get it on. This is something, it must be noted, she does actively through the rest of the film, being the one to maintain the various cameras in the Frankenstein castle. Riff Raff's is least clear. He speaks of bygone days, and the entire song seems to be performed out of a nostalgic tangent of his. The "under sedation" note, however, suggests he feels tied down, likely tired of performing the duty of Frank's "handyman."
