The sun don't shine
The moon don't move the tides,
To wash me clean
Sun don't shine
The moon don't move the tides,
To wash me clean
Why so unforgiving and why so cold
Been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs
Cold wind blows
The Gods look down in anger,
On this poor child
Cold wind blows
And Gods look down in anger,
On this poor child
Why so unforgiving and why so cold

I was there in 1985 and i was told by some locals, if you did cross the bridge you would "sigh" in relief, because to turn off before the bridge to the doge's courtyard would mean you were to be hanged--hence the bridge of sighs.
The bridge of sighs was built in the 16th century, in venice, italy. A covered bridge, it straddled between the doge's palace court and the prison/execution area. Prisoners, upon their sentencing, were immediately transported across the bridge, and either locked up, or summarily executed. At the end of trower's title track, "bridge of sighs", reg isadore, the drummer, snaps the snare drum once, hard, followed by a silence filled only with whispering winds... The sound of the gallows trap door falling down, the end of life, and the sigh the earth emits as it witnesses one more life that has crossed the bridge... To the other side.
Awesome video. I think that's davey paterson from ronnie montrose band gamma singing. I wish i could find them doing voyager . I know they did it at a small bar in sacramento ca. On their last tour through the us. Keep rocking trower!!!
I wonder what motivated him to write it? Sounds gloomy and hopeless, maybe robin will write us a new song before he leaves this world, one that shows "hope"as the ability to see the life that springs from death! Quiddity!
Listening to this song hundreds of times from the time i first heard it in 1973, i realize its true meaning to me, personally. Life is what it is, a challange through the three existances of past, present and future.
The true meaning of this song is based on the gallows walk from a prison in england across the bridge to the execution area. The bridge is called... Nick named (the bridge of sighs. )
