Rich Mullins – Awesome God lyrics

When He rolls up His sleeves
He ain't just putting on the Ritz
(Our God is an awesome God)
There's thunder in His footsteps
And lightning in His fists
(Our God is an awesome God)
And the Lord wasn't joking when He kicked 'em out of Eden
It wasn't for no reason that He shed His blood
His return is very close and so you better be believing that
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

And when the sky was starless
In the void of the night
(Our God is an awesome God
He spoke into the darkness
And created the light

Our God is an awesome God
Judgement and wrath He poured out on Sodom
Mercy and grace He gave us at the cross
I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God

This is a beautiful song because if our God wasn't awesome we would suffer slavery, burning, grinding of teeth and more every single day for eternity. But because God is so awesome He sent His Son to die for us so we could have eternal happiness and peace and be in His beautiful Presence. Those of you who put negative comments remember that you will have to justify them in front of God one day, and if things don't work out you will regret simple vain actions like this for eternity.

He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. And the hills, too. He has created all that our eyes can see. And that which they cannot. He knew us from birth. And from before he created. He knows our thoughts before they leave our lips. He knows before we think them. His standard is perfection, yet he created us imperfect. Only he is perfect, so, because he loves us so much and only he could live up to his standard, that he took our place, suffered in our place, died in our place. We love imperfectly. He loves completely: agape. Need does not move his hand, but faith alone. So in faith we thank him, ahead of time, for all that he will do that our eyes do not yet see.

This is a fantastic song testifying to the awesome might of the lord our God. He who revealed Himself fully in His own Son Jesus of Nazareth. Frankly, I don't know how people can read the Scriptures of the Israelites and then read the New Testament and not see how He fulfilled over a hundred prophecies that would identify Himself as the Messiah. He was born as a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, from the tribe of Judah, and of the house of David, born in Bethlehem. He was a greater prophet than Moses, and is known as the Son of God. He made the blind see, the deaf hear, and the dead live. After doing so much good, He was accused by false witnesses and beaten, tortured, and spat upon, before being rejected and killed. He was betrayed by a friend for thirty pieces of silver, yet was silent before His accusers. He was hated for no reason, mocked and sneered at, had His hands and feet pierced but no broken bones, had His clothing gambled for, was crucified, was given vinegar and gall to drink, and after dying was resurrected. While he went though this, He was abandoned by all those who said they loved Him. While He was dead, He was buried with the rich, though he died the worst death possible (alongside criminals).
