These lyrics posted, sound like what thom originally wrote and they played on stage years ago, maybe around ok computer? I've seen concerts on youtube where the song has an organ and the lyrics, if i remember right, match these from then. But of course they were modified for in rainbows. Also, back then, i believe they called the song "don't get any big ideas" instead of "nude". I think the meaning is a combo of his love straying for a girl, but he is already in a relationship he doesn't want to ruin. Plus, i believe it is about dashed dreams and hopes. I think a lot of thom's lyrics have dual/multiple meanings.

These lyrics are wrong... And i never took this song to be about a woman. It's metaphorical for dashed dreams and lost hopes.

Really?... Someone special to me just sent me this song, i hope what he meant is the latest two meanings.

To me the song is about a woman who he wants but he doesn't want to let himself fall for her because he knows he can't have her forever.

What i understand is that he is in love with a woman far away from him, he thinks that maybe somehow he will be able to be with her, but at the same time his mid tells him to forget it, because it can't really be that way for whatever reason, so it would be better to pretend he is alright without her... I kinda feel something like that in my life actually

I think basically the song is about a woman who is a perpetual tease. He's warning the man who's in love with her to not keep falling in love with her because she's fake and won't really love him back. The man might actually be himself. He clearly lusts after her, but that's not enough to sustain their relationship. The thing that's gone forever is the love he thought they shared.

I still don't understand the real meaning of the song... Can someone please tell me?
