As I finally meet my end
I won't be scared, I won't defend
The things I've done
I don't need him like you do
I don't fear him like you do

As the world revolves the sun
I hope the light that I become can
Sleep for once
I will leave it like you do
I won't lead it like you do
I won't leave it like they do
I don't need him like they do

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow

Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on their own
'Cause we are the colors
Of all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
And take to the streets
Take to the streets

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Lead or follow

As my world it hides behind
The words only your wars define
They read a lot like news
But I fear it more than you
I fear it more than you

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow

Just like old lovers
Who never leave home
We'll forget the city
And forget the roads
'Cause we are all rebels
Never do what we're told
We may not grow money
But man we grow old
Man we grow old

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow

Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on our own
'Cause we are the colors
In all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
And take to the streets

'Cause we are all children
Yeah, we are all man
It may not be much
But we do what we can
Don't need no preacher
To make us believe
That everything's perfectly
Fucked up like me

The writer thinks that just because he wants to 'sleep forever' after he dies w/o facing god on judgement day, that is what he will get to do. A preacher doesn't have to tell him he is messed up, he already knows he is. We all are. But hallelujah, god loves us just as we are. Only he can bring us the joy and everlasting life that this writer doesn't even know he is searching for.

I think its about how he thinks he doesn't have a soul, and he thinks his memory/energy (light) will go off into the universe and be one with it
hes saying he doesn't need the security of heaven and life after death and following all the spiritual and moral rules and regulations religion puts on us, and that when he dies it will just be like going to sleep forever
its a song about accepting death from the atheistic perspective, accepting the end of your existence and living the best life you can while you have it without fear of death.

Really, you are asking me what this means? Me? Ok, you get what you pay for! Ithis is only what the meaning is to me. Here goes.
Sleep is an amazing escape from reality.
Many people think that I am fun and also a role model. I am fun and I am a really good person. I really am. I won't rest until I can solve other peoples problems. At the same time, I often wonder why I bother. While I am officially christian, I'm pretty sure I don't believe it all.
When you actually work to make the world better, it is very easy to get discouraged. Success is awesome but there is a huge personal cost and success isn't always possible.
I love to sleep. I have fabulous dream worlds. I could easily sleep way too much. I don't want to die, but I so completely enjoy not having to be a leader.
At the same time, I do want to change the world. While success at changing the world is awesome it is just exhausting.

You don't have to believe in heaven or god to die happy. It's happy because it means the end of all the terrible things in life, and all the choices. Being alive without worrying about an afterlife frees you to stop worrying about what comes next and living your life the way you want to live it, not because of what you think will get you into heaven. That's what it means to me.
