Through the back window of our '59 wagon
I watched my best friend Jamie slipping further away
I kept on waving till I couldn't see her
And through my tears I asked again why we couldn't stay
Mama whispered softly time will ease your pain
Life's about changing nothing ever stays the same
And she said how can I help you to say goodbye it's okay to hurt and it's okay to cry
Come let me hold you and I will try how can I help you to say goodbye
[ keyboards ]
I sat on our bed he packed his suitcase I held a picture of our wedding day
His hands were trembling we both were crying
He kissed me gently and then he quickly walked away
I called up mama and she said time will ease your pain
Life's about changing nothing ever stays the same
She said how can I help you...
[ keyboards - strings ]
Sitting with mama alone in her bedroom
She opened her eyes and then squeezed my hand
She said I have to go now my time here is over
And with her final words she tried to help me understand
Mama whispered softly...

This song helped me to get over my husband when he had a massive heart attack and died in my arms nov, 14th of 08. I had been on medication for years but after he died i put myself into a prescribed drug induced coma for over a year and a half. Not even my grandchildren wanted to see me. When i had to go to work when my 2 roommates had left me with no money for the rent or the bills, i started getting my self worth and self esteem back again. I called my daughter every night crying cause i hurt so bad and was not suppose to be working but took a job washing dishes in a small shop in the town i bought a lemon for a but if it would not have been for this song and one other, i do not think i would have come out alive. Thank you for all your hard work and from all the love that comes from your heart. Your friend robin freelove

This song holds a lot of meaning for me, because our pastor was transferred to another city, and in the weeks leading up to his last Sunday, I tried to be strong, but when the day came, I was barely able to get through a reading included with our choir anthem, and the next week, I sobbed in a friend's comforting arms, admitting he was my best friend. So I think the first verse means a lot to me. We may be getting a new pastor (first Sunday of next month), but this last one holds a special part of my heart no one else can have.

My mom signed us off to a foster family and now we are at this house where we know nobody and it feels like my real mom died. She meant the world to me, and sometimes I cry myself to sleep. I miss her a lot and she does too, I hope. The last verse, where the mother dies, hurts me the most. It means so much, and so does the first one, about the friend. When she first signed us off, I didn't see my friends at all. I had to leave everything I had at her house and go to the stranger's house. They turned out to be the most fun and amazingly nice strangers I have ever met. I love them like I knew them my whole life. This song means a whole lot to me and when I sing it, I burst into tears. Not only am I embarrassed to sing in front of people, lol, but I cry because it's like, my life in words. If you are reading this, please know that you should love your mom no matter what. For she is the closest thing you will ever have. Never let her go.
