Hello world, hope you're listening
Forgive me if I’m young or speaking out of turn
But there’s someone I've been missing
And I think that they could be the better half of me

They’re in the wrong place tryin' to make it right
But I'm tired of justifying

So I say to you, come home, come home
'Cause I’ve been waiting for ya for so long, for so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
And the fight for you is all I've ever known
So come home

I get lost in the beauty of everything I see
The world ain’t half as bad as they paint it to be
If all the sons and all the daughters stop to take it in
Well hopefully the hate subsides and the love can begin

It might start now, yeah
Or maybe I'm just dreaming out loud

But until then come home, come home
'Cause I’ve been waiting for ya for so long, for so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
And the fight for you is all I've ever known, ever known
So come home, ooh

Everything I can’t be is everything you should be
And that’s why I need you here
Everything I can’t be is everything you should be
And that’s why I need you here

So hear this now, come home, come home
'Cause I’ve been waiting for ya for so long, for so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
And the fight for you is all I've ever known, ever known
So come home, come home

Well, I'd say this song is about someone who's still waiting for that 'special someone' to come along, that point in life when, spite of all that could go wrong or that the world might be falling apart and it seems there's not a chance that 'that' person will showed up, besides everything, there's still that glimpse of hope that's strong enough to believe that there 'is' someone out there for us. And think 'well, maybe he got on the wrong direction and got lost, but we'll make it. Just "come home", pls.! '

One republic wrote it for his best friends wife, his best friend is in the forces 'in the wrong place trying to make it right' and hes writing it from her point of view as she wants him to come home. Its saying that theres a war but all she can see is their relationship and hes been away for so long and she just wants him to come home.

I love this song so much. I'm into a 7 years relationship and we've been in a long distance relationship now for 2 years and the struggle is too much to bear. Most especially if your partner already found someone there and you were left hanging and he's always willing to give you up for a brief moment of thrill. You feel helpless but you're still hopeful he will remember that there's someone still waiting out there. It's so painful. That you just wish him to come home. :(

This is a truly beautiful song and I think it can be taken anyone of those ways depending on the person.
I see it as losing a loved on in a sense and wanting nothing but for them to be back with you.
In my case, someone I really care for moved away and it hurts me every day that I can't be with him. And I want him to come home.
Like I said, a truly beautiful song.
