It is about this guy who just got dumped by his girl and he knows why because he had done bad things to her (This time I was mistaken For handing you a heart worth breakin') And he tries different life styles to move on with his life (wise, poor, bind etc.) But he can't find himself back the way he was before, so the girl reminds him who he really is.
