I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
Woah, no heaven,
No heaven
Don't hear me.
And they say that a hero could save us,
I'm not gonna stand here and wait,
I'll hold to the wings of the eagles,
Watch as we all fly away.
Someone told me love would all save us,
But how can that be,
Look what love gave us,
World full of killing,
And blood-spilling, that world never came.
And they say that a hero could save us,
I'm not gonna stand here and wait,
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles,
Watch as we all fly away.
Aaaaa... [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/n/nickelback/hero.html ]
Now that the world isn't ending,
It's love that I'm sending to you,
It isn't the love of the hero,
And that's why I fear it won't do.
And they say that a hero could save us,
I'm not gonna stand here and wait,
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles,
Watch as we all fly away.
And they're watching us, (watching us)
They're watching us, (watching us)
As we all fly away,
And they're watching us, (watching us)
And they're watching us, (watching us)
As we all fly away (yeah)
Yeah,
And they're watching us (watching us)
And they´re watching us (watching us)
As we all fly awayyy,

For me it is basicaly talking about how the world has came to such dark times that everyone is killing or going mad, whilst others say we need peace
"world full of killing, and blood-spilling" the chours is saying (for me) that we shouldnt stand around waiting for someone to save us, we should just help ourselves. But you no thats just me =d

Heroes are villains in training... And heroes are evolved of weakness... The true strength is from hatred anger and rage not from weak love...

To truly understand the meaning of this song we must look inside ourselves and realize who we truly are because what we are is not important but who we are and we must fight for our freedom and liberate ourselves from the clutches of mans evil doings and wrongs and allow ourselves to truly live in peace in all times otherwise we will lose balance and then our world will become chaos incarnate. It is biblical... Look at the book of revelation. America is the eagle with wings. Wings represent our freedom. Our christian principles provide this freedom. We as a nation turn away from god and we start noticing our freedom slipping away. The hero is god. But instead of turning to god
To help our country, we turn more towards a socialist form of government which causes us to lose our wings of freedom. Heaven is watching us all fly away. In revelation the loss of wings of our country represents the transition of our country away from the prinicples grounded in god was founded on. Read revelation. Shortly after this occurs nation rises against nation.

I believe in the most obvious answer. It seems whoever the protagonist is of this song, it seems to me that they have given up hope that someone will come and save the day, and that they watch, but choose to do nothing
Well, the thing is, i believe this song has so much more depth than people give it credit for. Sadly, a lot of it was lost when they tacked it onto a movie, but the actual message in it is simple, but fairly deep.
It's essentially about a man (or woman, to be fair) who feels overwhelmed, like even heaven itself were oblivious to their plight. But they know that they have a responsibility to do something to help those around them, even if they feel they can't ever do enough. And in the end, they feel that it's still not quite enough, that they've given all they can, but it may not be sufficient, that they may not have earned the love or respect of the people they helped because of it. But they keep going.
