National Anthem – Botswana Native Anthem Text lyrics

Fatshe leno la rona,
Ke mpho ya Modimo,
Ke boswa jwa borraetsho;
A le nne ka kagiso.
Tsogang, tsogang! Banna, tsogang!
Emang, basadi, emang, tlhagafalang!
Re kopaneleng go direla
Lefatshe la rona.
Ina lentle la tumo
La chaba ya Botswana,
Ka kutlwano le kagisano,
E bopagantswe mmogo.

I'm very poor at languages but love this song so much as my staff sings it every morning after we had our prayers. I learned it and sing it everywhere I go (and may I add I'm seriously not a good singer) at all! Totally tone deaf and my voice cracks like an old hi-fi whilst belting out the songs). When the staff translated the song to me without the help of Google, I saw the Patriotic feelings come through strongly and I totally got it! Never will you find citizens more patriotic than in Botswana and it's purely because their heritage is strong and secure and they live in a country where they matter. To be proudly Botswana is easy. Every word in the National Anthem of Botswana is powerful and offers peace and quiet. A Gift From God. When I read this I knew why my staff so proudly sing it and why they don't mind me singing with even though they know I can't sing to save my life! They love their country and they are very proud of it and they should be, it's a great country with strong people working together to make it the best!

This is how my staff translated the song to me:.

Fatshe leno la rona - Blessed Be Our Country.
Ke mpho ya Modimo - A gift from god.
Ke boswa jwa bo rraetsho - It's Our Inheritance.
A le nneng ka kagiso - Let It Be In Peace.

Tsogang, tsogang banna tsogang - Awake, Awake, All Men, Awake.
Emang basadi emang tlhagafalang - Stand Up Women, Men, Get Active.
Re kopaneleng go direla - Be United To Work For Our Country.
Lefatshe la rona - Blessed Be Our Country.

Ina lentle la tumo - A Beautiful Name.
La chaba ya Botswana - A Beautiful Nation.
Ke kutlwano le kagisano - With Peace And Tranquility.
Dibopagantswe mmogo - We Are United Together.

An Anthem clearly written by someone who understood the people and loved the country, Kgalemang Tumediso Motsete. May it forever remind the people of Botswana where they are going and where they come from. Botswana. A beautiful name, A beautiful nation. Indeed.

May God bless it and keep it strong for all that lives and breathes in it.
