I've seen love go by my door
It's never been this close before
Never been so easy or so slow
Been shooting in the dark too long
When somethin's not right it's wrong!
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go

Dragon clouds so high above
I've only known careless love
It's always hit me from below
This time around it's more correct
Right on target, so direct
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go

Purple clover, Queen Anne's Lace
Crimson hair across your face
You could make me cry if you don't know
Can't remember what I was thinkin' of
You might be spoilin' me too much, love
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go

Flowers on the hillside, bloomin' crazy
Crickets talkin' back and forth in rhyme
Blue river runnin' slow and lazy
I could stay with you forever and never realize the time

Situations have ended sad
Relationships have all been bad
Mine've been like Verlaine's and Rimbaud
But there's no way I can compare
All those scenes to this affair
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go

Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm doin'
Stayin' far behind without you
Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm sayin'
Yer gonna make me give myself a good talkin' to

I'll look for you in the old Honolulu
San Francisco, Ashtabula
Yer gonna have to leave me now, I know
But I'll see you in the sky above
In the tall grass, and the ones I love
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go

I think this song about a break up but not wanting to let it go so this person you will always see in things because of memories and places you have been together

I believe the song to be about someone who has only had relationships in the past that weren't exactly the greatest and now she met someone and fell sincerely in love like never before. There is one line "purple clover, queen anne's lace" and i looked it up and found them to both be flowers and both of them live for about two years. I think these were put into the song to show that the relationship was long enough to have an impact on the individual lives of the two lovers. All good things eventually come to an end. It is said that she will see him in the sky above, possibly indicating that he is sick and will be in heaven shortly. There is also a reference of rimbaud, who was a poet and eventually died of cancer.

I think this song is about they are having an affair 'but there's no way i can compare all those scenes to this affair' and either the man or the women has only knowen careless love in their life 'i've only known careless love' the songs lyrics read to me thaat they are falling in love with each other pretty fast ' right on target so direct' sadly thing have things betweem them have ended 'situations have ended sad' but nothing will compare to the love they shared and that they will most likly mot see each other again but will see each other in another life 'but i'll see you in the sky above
In the tall grass, in the ones i love' this is what i think the song means
