She dances in these sheets at night
She dances to his needs
She dances 'til he feels just right
Until he falls asleep
She dances at the crack of dawn
And quickly cooks his food
She can't be late, can't take too long
The kids must get to school

[Chorus:]
She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of,
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

[Chorus:]
She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of,
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She dances for the man at work
Who works her overtime
She can't be rude as she says,
"I must be home tonight."
She dances to the kitchen stove
Dinner is served by nine
He says his food's an hour late
She must be outta her mind

[Chorus:]
She's a slave to the rhythm
She's a slave to the rhythm of
She's a slave to the rhythm
A slave to the rhythm of,
The rhythm of love, the rhythm of love

She works so hard, just to make her way
For a man who just don't appreciate
And though he takes her love in vain
Still she could not stop, couldn't break his chains
She danced the night that they fell out
She swore she'd dance no more
But then she did, he did not quit as she ran out the door

She danced through the night in fear of her life
She danced to a beat of her own
She let out a cry and swallowed her pride
She knew she was needed back home, home

[Chorus x5]

This song is about a woman who is working hard to meet everyone's needs and no one is attending to her wants, needs, or desires. She is dedicated to her role as a wife, mother, and provider. She is treated the same way at work; with no attention being paid to the consequences of the selfish decisions of her boss. He's not concerned about the disdain she will receive from her husband nor the needs of her family. Michael really hit the nail on the head with this one. I hope people listen.

The song is definitely about abuse. Women being abused at home and at work, and tolerating it just to keep the home and eke out a livelihood Some of MJ deepest and most touching lyrics. Think this song should have made it to one of his albums. The groove is tight as is the message.

I honestly believe the song attended for people to believe this women is being a wife to a man who is abusing her or maybe just not in love with him?. Shes doing everything a typical wife is supposed to do to keep the peace. Deep down she's not happy? Obviously it could meet a deeper darker meaning but most humans wouldn't see what it truly means.

I really think this is about someone dancing It's a good song about dancing which is good cause I love to dance but I think It's about mj pretending to be a girl and someone is making her dance and even if she tries to stop she can't do it to hard.
