I wish you freedom
I wish you peace
I wish you nights of stars
That beckon you to sleep
I wish you heartache
That leaves you more of a man?
I wish I could be there
But I can't

I wish you places
That sit so still
Where people never ever change
And Never ever will
I wish I could hold you
And make you understand
I wish I could be there
But I can't

Be good for your mama
Cause she'll need a hand to hold
Boy, she loves you
More than you'll ever know
There are rhymes and there are reasons
And times when nothing stayed the same
But you know my love still remains

I wish you wisdom
I wish you years
I wish you armies
To conquer all your fears
I wish you courage for all that life demands
I wish I could be there
But I can't

Be good for your mama
Cause she'll need a hand to hold
Boy, she loves you
More than you'll ever know
There are rhymes and there are reasons
And times when nothing stayed the same
But you know my love still remains

I wish we were together
I wish I was home
I wish there were nights
Where I was never alone
I know I've said it
But I'll say it once again
I wish I could be there
But I can't

I think that gavin's song is really just an inner reflection, that signifies the oppression that we all face from the trials in this life. We are all held up to the standards that society faces, and we feel urged to uphold our allegiance to the system that we are all trapped in, as we spin mindlessly on this circle that we all call life.

I have a whole different perspective of this song. I know the story behind it which happens to be... 'dads gone, misses his son, and wishes he were home with his family.' The way i see this song is through loss. My sisters husband died about two and half years ago in a car accident, a very tragic loss. My sister was 7 months pregnant with their second child and they were having a girl. They already had one son who was only two when his father passed. Unfortunately and sadly the dad was never able to see his daughter and his daughter was never able to see her daddy. So when i heard this song for the first time, around the time he passed away i had the urge to show my sister because i thought it was so beautiful and meaningful in such a perfect way. I felt that it made her look at things somewhat differently, and if not...at least a little. I told her this is what he'd be saying to you and your son/daughter if you could only hear him. I didn't want her feeling sad, but this brought her to tears...tears of joy...tears of being upset, and her heart being touched! It’s been almost three years now...and my sister still loves this song sooo dearly. When she's feeling sad and lonely, she remembers this song and has the thought in her head that her son and daughters daddy is still looking out for them and will always be here in spirit.
thankyou for letting my sister realize that!
    xoxoxo.

Well' where do I start. Ok ,I am currently serving our country in Iraq for a 3rd time and my son Gavin, really, who is almost 7 years old is experiencing his 3rd year away from Daddy. Recently he has had some issue with emotions in which my wife has brought to my attention. So one of my Soldiers tell me of this song a few weeks ago and I just listen to it today. I am a combat hardened SOB but this song brought tears to my eyes. It fit my current family situation perfect. The name of the song, the lyrics, and the current situation. I immediately sent the lyrics and the song to my wife while chatting to her. Her and Gavin listened to it and Gavin wrote to me "thank you Daddy". Thank you Marc for being such an artist to touch peoples lives in ways you can't imagine. I love you Suzanne, Gavin, and Piper. Daddy will be home soon!
