Luciano Pavarotti – Ave Maria lyrics
Ave Maria, gratia plena.
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus,
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
Et benedictus
Et benedictus fructus ventris,
Ventris tui, Jesus
.
Ave Maria.

(Some versions add the following)

Ave Maria, Mater Dei,
Ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
Ora, ora pro nobis;
Ora, ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
Nunc et in hora mortis,
In hora mortis nostrae.
In hora, mortis, mortis nostrae,
In hora mortis nostrae.
Ave Maria

I was raised catholic, but have'nt practiced in 30 years. However, I still recall the meaning as I understood it from the teachings at that time.
    Hail mary (a greeting).
    Full of grace (unquestionable).
The lord is with thee (most believe that he is with all of us).
Blessed art thou amongst women (she gave birth to the physical incarnation of god, I think that she is blessed).
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, jesus (duh).
Holy mary (holy is defined as associated with the divine. Does anyone doubt that she has an association with the divine?)
Mother of god (she gave birth to the christ. The catholic faith, and almost every protestant faith that I can think of, believes in the trinity. Therefore, mother of god).
Pray for us sinners (now this is the meat of it. Everything above is just a bunch of affirmations about beliefs. This segment is simply asking for the most influential female figure to ever to walk the planet to pray for us. Every time I go on facebook, I am bombarded with prayer requests, so, I know that everyone can't find this request offensive).
Now and at the hour of our death, amen (praying for someone is a universal thing. At the hour of our death is specifically catholic. That's another debate.)
Oh, as for the amen, google it.

This was my grandfather's favorite song. When we found out one of our twins was about to be born with a major heart defect, we searched for a name with a true meaning and found avariella, small strong woman. We shortened it to ava and added marie as a middle name to reinforce my grandfather's presence over her. She lived up to her name for 4 1/2 months. Still, she shows herself through this amazing song.

We do not worship mary. She is the ever-virgin mother conceived without sin, and her special status warrants a special kind of respect and admiration ("hyperdulia"), but not adoration, which is reserved solely for god.
Her sinlessness and special place as queen of heaven also make her prayers to god particularly powerful. This is why we pray to her. We recruit her help and ask her to pray for us to her son, because we know her prayers are more perfect than ours. Ave maria, gratia plena.

Everybody is correct. Se is the mother of God (Jesus) she can intercede for our prayers. We do not worship her. And no one said it above nor suggested to do so. The song is only to reaffirm that Mary is full of grace and mother of Jesus. We hail to her for the purity and virginal state in which she conceived and gave birth to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Sorry to say, but you are all wrong. Yes she is the mother of Jesus but we do not pray to her for anything. Jesus said himself in the Bible, no one comes to the Father except through me. Read your Bible. The Bible does not say that we should say the rosary. Matter of fact God does not want to hear the same thing over and over again. It is considered repetitious prayer. Again. Read your Bible.

The first sequence reflects the moment Miriam met with her older cousin Elizabeth, however the 2nd half is made up religious nonsense that is in no way biblical, but actual heresy. Folks do their best to explain away for feelings sake, but the very text of scripture refutes this vain imagination. She had several other children after Yeshua, one being so prominent named James. Praying for a dead person to pray for you is exactly that, dead. There is one mediator between YHVH and man, the Messiah Yeshua.

The italian version is similar to the latin, as latin disintegrated into 5 languages after the fall of the roman empire - italian, french, spanish, portugese and romeno. Italian version goes like this:.
    Amen.

My mother has prayed for Mother Mary’s intervention for as long as I can remember. She prays the rosary everyday and sometimes more. My mom has inspired me to pray to our Mother in heaven. Mary is Blessed and Full of Grace. It is true that she will listen to you in prayer and go to her a Son with your petitions. You may not receive what you were asking, but be sure that you are heard in the heavenly realm.

The question remains. Why would anyone pray to mary when they were commanded explicitly to have no other gods, and then christ additionally gave an example of how to pray.
Mary was a woman, and worshipping a woman would violate the ten commandments. So I suppose the meaning of the song is twofold. The first part being scripture put to music, and the second (praying directly to mary to intercede), a form of idol worship, in violation of the ten commandments.

Jesus is not god. Get it right
he was a prophet of god.
Not the son because god doesn't hav any sons or daughters or brothers or a father or even a mother. He was sent on earth to spread the word of god not his own god's words to the world. So whoever says he jesus is god your wrong about that. Just like the otherr prophets of time. They can't all be god now can they!. Fwi-- this is a lonve song about a girl who he liked. So sweet --
    this song is beautiful .

Jesus prayed, father fogive them for they know not what they do. Jesus is god. Mother mary is the mother of god. The 1st part of the rosary is from st. Lukes gospel. The 2nd part is simply a request for prayer. Now simply think of the many wonderful bible stories of jesus? And there you have it. This is one way to draw your attention to jesus. Praise christ now!

I remember singing this in the choir when I was 7 or 8 years old.
We used to have May celebrations of the crowning of "Mary, Queen of Heaven".
We loved it and It was beautiful!
I wish the church would still do that!
May used to be the month of Mary.
