Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door

Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now to the baby down the hall

Oh, I feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the centre of the Earth again
I can feel it

Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes (Her eyes, her eyes)
Pale blue coloured eyes,
Presents the circle
Puts the glory out to hide, hide

Oh, I feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the centre of the Earth again
I can feel it, I can feel it

All right, all right, all right
I can feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the centre of the Earth again
I can feel it
I can feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the centre of the Earth again
I can feel it
I can feel it comin' back again (Back again)
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the centre of the Earth again (Centre of the Earth)
I can feel it, I can feel it, I can feel it

I think most everyone here is correct. Its about a miscarriage, a mother dying during childbirth, a mother giving birth & surviving. It happens day in and day out, everywhere. The point is that even in birth there is death around the corner, & in death there is a new soul entering the universe. Its about the circle/cycle of life & death.

The first two paragraphs say it all. People who believe in the concept of re-birth can understand the deeper meaning of this song. Many asian cultures believe in re-incarnation, i.e. The soul leaves one body and enters the next.

The 'confusion' that he is taking about is the 'sanskaras' that lives on with the soul. The soul carries vibrations from the past and adds in the sanskaras in the new life.

In this song, the 'new mother' has given birth. The 'angel' in the first para can be equated to natures law of life and death. In this para, the angel 'welcomes new life', but doesn't yet have a soul. Hence the second para (hence it is the second para instead of the first) explains the old mother dying. When 'the angel' closes her eyes, the vibrations and sanskaras (a.k. A the soul, a.k. A confusion in this song) that 'was hers', is moved to the new born baby down the hall (that just got life). This is repeated in the fourth para, where i believe the writer stops at the opening of the eyes and 'awaiting' its new 'confusion', thus continuing the cycle.

The third para explains how the soul, that really belongs to the creator, keeps getting pulled into the earthly cycle due to the 'sanskaras'. In certain cultures, meditation and awareness based techniques are used to achieve 'nirvana' which is the liberation of the soul from this cycle.

Its an amazing song and packs a lot of information in a few stanza's. You can look up more about these belief systems on the net. This thinking usually is prevalent in the buddhist and the hindu cultures.

Some of these lyrics are wrong. Especially the first part.

Anyway, you are all pretty much wrong. The true meaning of this song, is basically explaining the circle of life, and how babies are born and people are dying all the time.. The writer of the song, envisioned this happening in a hospital, and it tells the story of a baby being born, and the family rejoicing, and in another room of the hospital, an old woman dying, and the mourning of her death. There is no mothers dying in childbirth, no miscarriages and there are no "twins" as has been previously said.

This is an amazing song. One of my favorites. It brought a tear to my eye. The film clip was a little disappointing for me though, as it was a home setting, and not a hospital like "live" had envisioned. Beautiful lyrics though.

    Anyway, that's me done.

This song says it all about the very premature birth of my twin daughters and death of one of them 2 months later. Really the confusion that was her's belongs now to the baby down the hall. Like they wrote the song for me it just describes that time in my life perfectly.
