I think this song is about a guy who's found God, finally, and falling in love with HIM, not a girl. (Desperate for changing, starving for truth) Maybe "I'm closer to where I started, chasing after you" is meaning that he drifted away from God and is coming back to Him, giving Jesus everything freely and not sure of what will happen because of it, waiting for God to reveal his plan to him!

He remains uncertain though of how things will turn out but he is hopeful for a positive outcome. He probably felt dejection before. Now, he'll pursue happiness no matter what it takes. This time, with his new found love.
