Eighty-nine cents in the ashtray
Half empty bottle of Gatorade
Rollin' on the floorboard

That dirty Braves cap on the dash
Dogtags hangin' from the rear view
Old Skoal can and cowboy boots
And a "Go Army" shirt folded in the back

This thing burns gas like crazy
But that's all right
People got their ways of copin'
Oh, and I've got mine

I drive your truck
I roll every window down
And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, I tear it up
Till all the pain is a cloud of dust
Yes, sometimes, I drive your truck

I leave that radio playin'
The same ole country station
Where you left it

Yeah, man, I crank it up
You'd probably punch my arm right now
If you saw this tear rollin' down my face
Hey, man, I'm tryin' to be tough

And Mama asked me this mornin'
If I'd been by your grave
But that flag of stone
Ain't where I feel you, anyway

I drive you truck
I roll every window down
And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, I tear it up
Till all the pain is a cloud of dust
Yes, sometimes, I drive your truck

I've cussed, I've prayed, I've said goodbye
I've shook my fist and asked God why
These days, when I'm missin' you this much

I drive your truck
I roll every window down
And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, and I tear it up
Till all the pain is a cloud of dust
Yes, sometimes,
Brother, sometimes, I drive your truck

I drive your truck
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
I drive your truck

I have 2 older brothers, the younger of the 2 passed over 8 yrs ago at the age of 34. He had a brain tumor that was cancer. When he passed, he left behind his '55 ford pick up. That truck now belongs to our oldest brother. He just recently had a scene airbrushed on the tailgate, it is all of our children, with my brother looking over them with the phrase " guardian angel". Yes, this song def fits my brothers. Kim

I lost my best guy friend last summer and this song describes him and my boyfriend perfectly. They were bestfriends and my boyfriend has his truck. It's like this song was written for them.

The song is based on an interview of Paul Monti whose son, Jared, was awarded the Medal of Honor after dying in Afghanistan while trying to save a fellow soldier. The interview aired on NPR's "Here and Now" program and in it Paul talked about how he still drives his son's pickup to feel close to him. The song is adapted from that interview but in the song it is a brother driving his fallen brother's truck. He leaves the truck just as his brother left it, with the same ratty ball cap and junk floating around, even leaves it on his favorite radio station. When their mother asks if he has visited his brother's grave recently he explains to the listener why he doesn't have to: because it feels just like old times when he drives his brother's truck, minus the giant hole in his heart.

It's about a guy trying to let go, but can't. He leaves an empty can of chew that was his fathers. He lets his fathers gatorade, half empty, roll around on the floor and his old Braves hat on the dash. I would imagine by keeping those things around its like having his father around. I like it.

The meaning is his dad had a truck and he is driving it to remember his dads death from the army and he does everything he would do when she drives it. He also cry's because he remembers him, and he would never changed the radio because that was the last radio station he listened to before he passed away.
