Shaking your head like it's all wrong
Before you're here you're already gone
And even with the light all around you
You're all alone in the dark.
You're breaking your own heart
Taking it too far down the lonely road
You say it's just one love
But when it's close enough you just let it go
The very thing you've been the most afraid of
You've been doing it from the start, breaking your own heart.
Too many tears, too many falls
It's easy to hear behind these walls
But you don't have to walk in the shadows
Life is so hard.
You're breaking your own heart
Taking it too far down the lonely road
You say it's just one love
But when it's close enough you just let it go
The very thing you've been the most afraid of
You've been doing it from the start, breaking your own heart.

You're breaking your own heart.
It's not too late, I'm still right here.
If only you let go of your fears.
You're breaking your heart
Taking your own heart down the lonely road
You say it's just one love
But when it's close enough you just let it go
The very thing you've been the most afraid of
You've been doing it from the start, breaking your own heart.
You're breaking your own heart

You're watching someone you love destroy themselves, and you can't really do anything. You feel their pain like it's your own pain. You realize this too late and you can't do anything to help them and you will start blaming yourself for that person's pain. That person leaves you and you can't get over the feeling that you let them leave you without putting up a fight and fighting to get them back.

Falling deeply in love once (or even twice) and having your heart badly broken, it sometimes takes years to get over that hurt and you begin to believe that every person who shows the slightest interest in you is going to eventually hurt you. So, you put up walls, keep that person at a distance and believe that no one will ever love you without causing you pain. It's a very lonely road and little by little you do break your own heart just by believing that you're not worthy of being loved or even being cared about. Yet, that person is still there - hoping that you'll let down the walls, let him in and let him love you. Maybe one day ...

I think it's about guarding yourself and being so afraid to let someone in that you push them away before they get too close. While this prevents the other person from hurting you, you end up hurting yourself.

It's about a person whom always wanted to protect themselves. But when you are protecting yourself so much that you are not willing to shut people into your heart just so you dont get hurt, he ended up just being lonely and it will break your heart and that's what he tried to avoid from the start

It's wrapping up all the emotions you feel right before you run away from the person you love with all your heart. When they do something wrong such as cheating but you have to let go that feel you get when your heart is about to fall out your butt, you lose your breath, you lose your footing in life and you have to let go but you don't want to even though it would be for the best and there is someone waiting to make you happy out there somewhere but you dont want to let go of what could have been or you run away from a good guy when you think its to go to be true so you flee and the regret afterwards eats you alive.
