Joyce – Drume Negrita lyrics

Tu drume negrita
que yo va compra nueva cunita
que va tener capitel
que va tener cascabel

I agree with everything said on the previous post. A beautiful translation of the meaning. I just would like to add that the worlds of this song do not necessarily resemble correctly spoken spanish. And that this is one of the charms of the song. For example, if the singer wants to be authentic, he or she should not say "colorado". It should be said "colorao" as a true lucumí would say it. :) then you see how colorao rhymes with balalao and then pao-pao. This is true throughout the song. Instead of "los pies" it should be said "lo pie" and so on and so forth. Listen to bola de nieve or bobbi céspedes (mamá la nengrita se le salen lo pie de la cunita. Y la negra mercé ya no sabe que hacé. Cacabé. Etc.)

I used to hear this song in my infancy. There is a correction that I think needs to be done. "si tu no drume yo te va traer un babalao... "
I believe this afrocuban lullaby aludes to the poverty of the slave children thst outgrow their crib and continue to have to sleep in it despite the infant's feet hanging out of the crib. There is a promise that if the baby sleeps the parent will by a new bed with the trimmings and jinglebells. But if the baby does not sleep the parent will get a babalao (kind of priest in the santeria belief and he wil spank the baby for not sleeping. It is an interesting rhyme rich in depicting slave life.
