You should've been gone
Knowing how I made you feel
And I should've been gone
After all your words of steel
Oh I must've been a dreamer
And I must've been someone else
And we should've been over
Oh Sherry, our love
Holds on, holds on
Oh Sherry, our love
Holds on, holds on [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/j/journey/oh_sherry.html ]
But I want to let go
You'll go on hurtin' me
You'd be better off alone
If I'm not who you thought I'd be
But you know that there's a fever
Oh that you'll never find nowhere else
Can't you feel it burnin' on and on
(Chorus)
But I should've been gone
Long ago, far away
And you should've been gone
Now I know just why you stay
They're not having the best relationship, but he's willing to keep going.

This song is not by journey. It's by steve perry. It's a great song about how both should have moved on but neither do.

I dated a girl named sherry, fell in love with her in 1977 when i first met her. Dated her for 2 years then went into the army as she thought she didn't want a serious relationship. Saw her again in 1983 and 84. I was still in the army and i first heard this great song. I knew that this song was meant for sherry and i. And now we have reconnected again, 35 years after first meeting and she is still the one love of my life and soul mate. She had never heard this song until this very day, and absolutely fell in love with it, and knew it was meant for her and i. And she knows that she is as much in love with me as i am with her after all these years... Thank you steve perry for this wonderful song...

Soul love. A love that doesn't go away, no matter how much time passes. Enduring love.
