John Fogerty – Bad Moon Rising lyrics

(John Fogerty)
I see a bad moon a-rising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earth quakes and lightnin'.
I see bad times today.
Don't go 'round tonight
It's bound and take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.
I hear hurricanes a-blowing,
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.
Don't go 'round tonight
It's bound and take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.
Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Look's like we're in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.
Don't go 'round tonight
It's bound and take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

During the Viet Nam war, when the rainy season set in, from a firebase atop a hill the moon could sometimes be seen rising right on the horizon beneath the clouds. There would be lightening and the rivers did overflow, by miles sometimes, and night time was not a good time to be out and about. When the wind blew there was no wind break at the top of the hill and the rain fell horizontally just like in a hurricane and during a thunderstorm with lightening strikes all around and/or during a mortar attack, the ground shook like an earthquake. Also, day or night, you needed to be prepared to die. Those lyrics may have absolutely nothing to do with the war, but I've never heard the experience summed up so well in so few words.
