You've got the best of both worlds
You're the kind of girl who can take down a man,
And lift him back up again
You are strong but you're needy,
Humble but you're greedy
And based on your body language,
And shoddy cursive I've been reading
Your style is quite selective,
Though your mind is rather reckless
Well I guess it just suggests
That this is just what happiness is

And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses

Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you write
Kind of turn themselves into knives
And don't mind my nerve you could call it fiction
But I like being submerged in your contradictions dear
'Cause here we are, here we are

Although you were biased I love your advice
Your comebacks they're quick
And probably have to do with your insecurities
There's no shame in being crazy,
Depending on how you take these
Words I'm paraphrasing this relationship we're staging

And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses

Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you say
Kind of turn themselves into blades
And kind and courteous is a life I've heard
But it's nice to say that we played in the dirt oh dear
Cause here we are, Here we are
Here we are [x7]
We're still here
What a beautiful mess this is
It's like taking a guess when the only answer is yes

Through timeless words, and priceless pictures
We'll fly like birds, not of this earth
And times they turn, and hearts disfigure
But that's no concern when we're wounded together
And we tore our dresses, and stained our shirts
But it's nice today, oh the wait was so worth it.

She's the best of both worlds --a woman who's confident (on the outside) and appears put together/but also a woman who is on the inside, needy, lost and dependant on a mans love. Its the kind of crazy girl a man can't help but love. Both sides of this woman builds up a mans ego, he's got the strong woman, and he's got the woman who needs him. He realizes its not healthy its --Crazy and he knows she will love you one minute and hate you the next (tear down a man/build him up again) she appears 'together' but her mind is reckless. She's sane and insane, she's strong but needy, humble, but greedy. She's strong enough to be without a man, at the same time still helpless and dependant on one. Its all about one man loving one woman. A lost one. The woman has been through alot, the man is along for the rough ride and basically says they're now wounded together. He sticks it out, cause even though few and far between, the one day that everything seems normal is so worth the wait. The song is a warped fairy tale.
I know, cause I am so much like this confused soul, and I've been loved by great men, who mean well and asipre to heal broken wings, but alas, eventually give up and leave. A woman like the one in this song, is easy to fall in love with, but hard to live along.

He understands that this stage he is in is very messy and ugly. Nevertheless, when he sees this stage as just a necessary part of the whole, which is bound to be beautiful, he can see this ugly part as something beautiful as well. It's like the "good soar" when you lift weights. It's painful, but at the end of it, you know the result would be something favorable. As you repeat this process over and over, you begin to love the "soar," because of the excitement.
Likewise, jason understands that this stage with his girl is painful, but is only a prequel to something better (love), so he dislikes, at the same time loves this stage.

Too deep, actually this is my most favorite of all jason mraz song. Maybe the song is about how a relationship end up and how they could pick it all up from the beginning how each other mess things up, and see what was the beauty behind all of the things they've been through. Timeless words and priceless pictures and till the end of the lyrics is most favorite part. And it was worth listening to this song. Kinda love it though. Peace.

I think it means that he is in love with a girl who is indecisive about what she wants in life. If they were to be kind and courteous, it is to say that they haven't met challenges in their relationship that tested it and nice to say that we played in the dirt meant he has gone through the trials and they are still together. They wear dresses and picking up trash signify that they are not afraid to get hurt for the sake of being together in whatever circumstance because nothing can change what they have gone through together and the beautiful mess, which is their imperfect yet enduring relationship that he then realized he wanted. It talks about the paradox of love.

This song is so sweet and tender, and it touches me everytime. I love listening to his discription of a kinda rough relationship that is beautiful despite it all. Beautiful mess, how true! My absolute favorite part is "when the only answer is yes". It shows how he can't even imagine a life without this girl. The lyrics are beautiful, the music is beautiful, I could listen to this song over and over. :)
