Lord, hear our cry
Come heal our land
Breath life into these dry and thirsty souls
Lord, hear our prayer
Forgive our sin
And as we call on your name
Would you make this a place
For your glory to dwell [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/j/jared_anderson/hear_us_from_heaven.html ]
Chorus:
Open the blind eyes
Unlock the deaf ears
Come to your people
As we draw near
Hear us from heaven
Touch our generation
We are your people
Crying out in desperation
Bridge:
Hear us from heaven,
Hear us from heaven,
Hear us from heaven (4x)

It is a prayer, also many people pray this everyday, because not every one is a believer in jesus christ. Also, god does hear our begging, the one that posted on nov. 3, 2011 said it better than i could.

The song's great :) it speaks of a never-ending hunger from human hearts -which is what god wants us to have. Another translation of mat. 5:6 is blessed are those who hunger and thirst for god's approval. They will be satisfied.
Same with psalm 63:1 -a psalm of david. When he was in the desert of judah. O god, you are my god, earnestly i seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
David's hunger, thirst and 'seeking' for god never dies out. That's why god labeled david as the man after his own heart. :)
In the same way, he said in his word: psalm 107:9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
We don't beg, we ask god for more of him for him to fill us. :) that's what the song meant for me.

Someone obviously has no idea the context of the song... When did god heal the u. S. Through jesus? I must have missed it. I'm pretty sure it's okay to still ask god to heal our land. Anyone in doubt, read ii chronicles 7:14

Why is this whole song begging god to do something that he has already done through jesus? This is a great song if you are under the mosaic covenant. Fortunately, we are not and jesus has already paid it all. We don't have to bed god.
