Do you remember your coming down,
Forced to take sides?
Your taunted charm and your broken smile,
Touched me unexpectedly.
So long,
So long you've waited in line.
Desire is a gift in life.
So long,
So long you've left and arrived,
It's time for you to stay a while.
If you chose life,
You know what the fear is like.
You welcome addiction,
This is your kingdom. [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/i/iamx/kingdom_of_welcome_addiction.html ]
Your fight for power,
For memories, answers and signs,
Will bring you through the dark to light,
Clear and redefined.
Too long,
Too long I waste for these,
Emotionally sucking life,
Too long,
Too long, you waste, and right,
It's time for you recognise.
If you chose life,
You know what the fear is like.
You welcome addiction,
This is your kingdom.
If you chose life,
You know what the fear is like.
You welcome addiction,
This is your kingdom.
It seems to say that life is a world of fear, a waste, and a trouble. And if you know this to be true, you should consider this mortal world your kingdom, because you welcome addiction. Addiction being a reference to drugs and other things of release or escape. Therefore, if you chose a mortal life, you will fear enough to want to numb and blind yourself with drugs and other addictions. To say, "this is your kingdom," is to say, "this is where you are welcome and bound," or effectively trapped, because it is your place of origin, your home, your realm of existence. Underlying all this is the backwards reference to death as an escape from a world of addiction and fear. "your fight for power" -- struggle for gain and authority
"for memories, answers, and signs" -- recollection and understanding
"will bring you through the dark to light" -- reveal to you the truth from the lies and misconceptions that once consumed you
"clear and redefined" -- as you had not perceived it to be, nor could have imagined it previously.
