High School Musical is the soundtrack of the Disney Channel Original Movie, of the same name, it was released on January 10, 2006 and was the best selling album of 2006, climbing to number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart in early March and again in late March 2006. It has been certified 4x Platinum.
Recorded in five days, it debuted at #143 on the Billboard 200, selling 6,469 copies in its first week and climbed to #1 on the Billboard album chart in early March and again in late March 2006.
On May 23, 2006, the same day the DVD came out, Walt Disney Records released a Special Edition of the High School Musical album featuring a bonus disc with eight karaoke tracks of the High School Musical numbers.
