IT'S BEEN A LONG, LONG TIME
Bing Crosby with Les Paul/Harry James
words by Sammy Cahn, music by Jule Styne

Peaked at # 1 in 1945
Competing versions charted that year by Harry James (#1); Charlie Spivak (#4);
and Stan Kenton (#6)
- World War II ended the month before this Crosby recording hit No. 1 on the
Billboard charts in 1945. Accompanied by Les Paul on the guitar, Bing
effectively captures the swelling anticipation of Americans regarding the
imminent return of their boys from overseas. The song remained on the
charts for 16 weeks.

Kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Haven't felt like this, my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time

You'll never know how many dreams
I've dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time

Ah, kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long time
Haven't felt like this my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time

You'll never know how many dreams
I dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Long, long time

This song stands for what every serviceman was thinking and praying for after WWII, when he could at last come back to his girl or wife and finally make all his dreams of life come true. This is all perfectly captured by Harry James and Kitty Kallen in this song "It's Been A Long, Long, Time!

When the servicemen came back from WW11, they were so happy to be with their wives and sweethearts again because it had been so long away from them. Throughout the war, their wives and sweethearts and the love they had for them kept them going and fighting. Even the instramentals to this song are so loving. I agree, Harry James DID capture the way every serviceman felt.
